Workshop – Emotional Awareness

What happened at the workshop on Emotional Awareness?

After initial introductions when we shared a significant experience in our lives, we had morning tea. Then we undertook a self-assessment and shared what we hoped would happen in the workshop. With one personal experience each we shared what these made us feel. Then we wrote on a small card a significant experience that needed our attention in terms of what that made us feel and how it made other people feel. These cards were shuffled and each of us chose a new card sharing what that new experience meant for each of us. Then we played with balloons and noted how they made us feel elated and uplifted. Then we we were asked to design a card addressed to ourselves outlining steps we could take in an activity which would help us care for ourselves more and when we took this home to display the card in a prominent place so we’d be reminded.  This would help us receive more energy to support and encourage other people we’re supporting. We then shared a yummy lunch that had been home prepared. The Green Shed has a beautiful expansive outlook onto Te Mata Peak and the weather was summery warm.

After lunch we shared what we felt hadn’t been covered in the workshop with the facilitator replying to these. One participant asked what to do when the person we’re working with remains silent. Someone else asked what do mentors do but fortunately this had been partly covered in the latest newsletter which was then handed out. We then wrote the second part of our evaluation and what we’d like to see covered in the next workshop. Most reported the workshop for them was awesome and inspiring but when I get more feedback I’ll ‘ let you know more!
